Swiss Surname Directory (SSD)

The "Swiss Surname Directory" had been designed to give some basic information on Swiss (or supposed to be Swiss) surnames by combining data from several sources (it is therefore not to be confused with the "Register of Swiss Surnames"). All information was compiled by volunteers on request, free of charge. The second aim of the "Swiss Surname Directory" was to establish contacts between people researching the same name.

Unfortunately this free service is not available for the time being, due to our host having been taken over by another ISP: technical instabilities caused by the new ISP have forced us to abandon this service. At the moment it cannot be estimated if or when SSD will be operational again. If it becomes operational again, this will be announced on the free SwissGen newsletter: you are invited to subscribe by filling in the web form (click on "Speichern" to submit your address). You'll receive a confirmation e-mail: this has to be returned (this is to avoid incorrect subscriptions). Don't worry that the subscription page is German only - all newsletter announcements will be bilingual (English and German). This newsletter is not limited to the SSD, but announces all new SwissGen pages and major re-writes.
